CLOVERDALE TEAMS TO REPRESENT B.C. AT THE DOMINION CURLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2010
SURREY, April 27, 2010 – The Pacific International Cup, held at the Richmond Curling Club from April 21-25, 2010, played host to 20 men’s and 16 women’s teams representing curling clubs from across the province and from Alaska down to Texas. In the end, two local curling teams from the Cloverdale Curling Club will represent B.C. at the Dominion Curling Club Championships held in Charlottetown, P.E.I. in November 2010. Cory McLaughlin, and teammates Danielle Callens, Crystal Murray and Corri Roberts, defeated Richmond’s Team Thompson in the final on Sunday to advance to the national competition; while Stu Harris, with teammates Dean Lunn, Todd O’Dell and Bob Crocker, defeated Team Black from Penticton to advance as the men’s representative. Curling Celebrates New Young Image
April 26th, 2010 · News
Curling is poised to cash in on its new, trendy image thanks to its exposure at the 2010 Olympic Games, as it’s suddenly almost as trendy as snowboarding as teenagers get in on the act. On the heels of the “curling fever” set off at the Olympics, the Cloverdale Curling Club welcomed nearly 700 school children and 400 adults to its annual Open House held over March 22-24, 2010. More than 40 volunteer technical on-ice assignees assisted in welcoming and introducing the community to the sport of curling. Students from local schools were treated to on and off-ice instruction throughout the day, while teens, young adults, and families received basic instruction and enjoyed a short game during the evening’s informal session. The Cloverdale Curling Club encourages all beginner curlers to attend its Learn to Curl program in September and to check out next year’s Saturday Morning and Sunday Night Novice Leagues.
