Curling Clinics – 2016-2017 Season 

The Club is offering eleven different curling clinics during the 2016-2017 curling season.  Please pre-register with the office.

 

Novice Clinic              Sept. 12, 13, 14, 2016            7 pm to 9 pm

  • Sept. 12th - The topics will be:  Orientation, Safety, Balance, Line of Delivery, Weight control and Release.
  • Sept. 13th- The topics will be:  Review of Basic Delivery, Sweeping and Communication, Roles and Responsibilities of each position on the team, Rules of the Game and Etiquette.
  • Sept. 14th – Will be a full game with instructors standing by to offer support and encouragement.

Intermediate Clinic    Sept. 24, 2016            1 pm to 3 pm

  • Improve your Stance, Balance and Line of Delivery
  • Improve your Grip and Release
  • Learn the top 7 ways to control the weight of your shots
  • Video analysis will show you what you are doing wrong and how to correct it.
  • Learn how to practice with a purpose
  • Recommended for curlers with 2 to 9 years of experience
  • Maximum 16 participants
  • Cost $15.00

Sweeping and Communication Clinic          Oct. 1, 2016    1 pm to 3 pm

  • Learn the latest sweeping techniques
  • Improve your sweeping judgement using stopwatches
  • Improve your team communication skills using the Ferbey Zones
  • Learn how sweepers can recognize and sweep for “the Break”
  • Discuss “Broomgate”. Which brush is best for you?
  • Maximum 24 participants

Advanced Delivery Clinic      Oct. 15, 2016  1 to 3 pm

  • Improve your stance, balance and Line of Delivery
  • Learn how eye dominance affects your release
  • Learn the top 10 (of 12) ways to vary the weight of your shots
  • Learn how you can vary your release to control the amount of curl of your shots
  • Video analysis of your delivery will show you what you can improve and how
  • Recommended for curlers with more than 10 years of experience
  • Maximum 16 participants
  • Cost $15.00

Skipping Clinic                       Oct. 22, 2016  1 to 3 pm

  • Learn how to signal the shots so that your team understands every shot being called
  • Learn how to call the line to take full advantage of every shot
  • Learn how to recognize and use “the break” effectively
  • Learn how to recognize Plan A, B or C
  • Learn how to read Ice and Rocks
  • Learn what factors affect the speed and amount of curl of the ice   
  • Recommended for Skips and thirds, however the information would be useful to players of any level
  • Maximum 16 participants

Basic Skills Refresher Clinic   Oct. 29, 2016 1 to 3 pm

  • Highly recommended for first year curlers
  • Brush up on your stance, balance and line of delivery
  • Improve your grip and release
  • Become a better team player by improving your sweeping and communication skills
  • Get tips on rules and etiquette
  • Maximum 16 participants
  • Cost $15.00

Strategy Clinic                       Nov. 5, 2016   1 to 3 pm

  • Learn the Basic Strategy Principles
  • Learn how to develop a Game Strategy for your team based on your team’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Learn the Shot-by-Shot tactics that will support your Game Strategy
  • Learn the key decision factors on each shot
  • Learn when to play offence and when to play defense
  • This clinic will be held both on and off the ice
  • Open to any number of participants

Advanced Skill Development Clinic Jan. 14, 2017   1 to 3 pm

  • Do you want to learn how to make your team a “better team”?
  • Learn how to make your skip’s job easier by “normalizing” the deliveries of all the players on the team. 
  • Review Line of Delivery and Release skills. Video analysis will be used.
  • Learn what to say, (or what not to say) to your teammates to maximize the chances for success of the next shot
  • Learn mental training techniques to control your thoughts and emotions under stress
  • Learn how better communication systems can improve your team’s chances for success from 5 to 25%.
  • Recommended for teams with more than 5 years of experience but open to everyone
  • Maximum 16 participants

Ice Reading Clinic                  Jan. 21, 2017   1 to 3 pm

  • Learn what to look for when “reading the ice”
  • Learn what factors affect the speed and amount of curl
  • Learn how to “map the ice”
  • Learn how to match rocks
  • Learn how the whole team can work together to improve your chances of success
  • This clinic will be held both on and off ice
  • Recommended for skips and thirds
  • Maximum 16 participants

Stick Clinic                              Jan. 28, 2017   1 to 3 pm

  • Learn how to deliver a rock using a delivery stick
  • Learn how to line up to be “on the broom” for every shot
  • Learn how to release the rock cleanly
  • Learn tips and techniques for weight control
  • Recommended for anyone who has physical problems using the slide delivery or anyone wishing to come back to the game after an injury
  • Maximum 16 participants
  • Cost $15.00
  • Pre-registration is required

 

Video Analysis Clinic             Feb. 4, 2017    1 to 3 pm

  • This clinic will feature a more in-depth session of video analysis starting with a review of the key principles.
  • Thereafter groups of 4 will be booked at 15 minute intervals to film and review their deliveries and recommend any improvements.
  • Each group will be given time to practice and then be filmed once again
  • Maximum 16 participants
  • Cost $15.00
